Connie Carmean of Laurel, Delaware began growing chickens in 1978 when she and her late husband bought a farm and built two chicken houses. A business administration graduate from the University of Delaware, Connie left a job with a law firm to dedicate herself to her new farming operation. Today, Connie is the sole operator of the Connie Carmean Farm including four chicken houses where she grows close to a half million birds each year. Connie also manages a farming operation that tills 384 acres in corn and soybeans. In addition to being recognized as one of DPI’s 2015 Outstanding Poultry Producers, Connie was honored to receive the Delaware Department of Agriculture’s 2013 Environmental Stewardship Award. Connie is the proud mother of a 28-year old son, Matthew and a grandmother of a one-year-old boy. We are very proud to have the Carmean farm as a 2015 Outstanding Poultry Producer.
