32 Scholarships Awarded to Children and Grandchildren of Employees, Growers and Grain Producers

MILLSBORO, DE — July 11, 2023 — Mountaire Farms, the nation’s fourth largest chicken company, recently awarded 32 students with $2,500 scholarships to help them pay for college.

Children and grandchildren of employees, growers, and grain producers were eligible for the scholarship. Winners will be invited to an event later this summer where they will receive certificates and be recognized for their efforts.

“We are proud of this program because it embraces everything that we care about – our employees, our growers, our grain producers and their families,” said Phillip Plylar, President of Mountaire Farms. “And these students have all demonstrated a commitment to their education, and to their communities, which we believe should be celebrated.”

This year’s recipients include (broken into two groups – Delmarva and North Carolina):

2023 Scholarship Recipients North Carolina

Archer Kerns currently attends Western Carolina University and is studying emergency medicine. He is the son of Dan Kerns, a breeder grower for Mountaire.

Cheyenne Childers currently attends Wilkes Community College and is studying Agribusiness. She is the daughter of Justin Childers, a breeder grower for Mountaire.

Trace Landon Chatham plans to attend Wilkes Community College in the fall to study Agribusiness. His grandparents, Tommy and Cathy Chatham, are breeder growers for Mountaire.

Emerson Belle Hickey plans to attend the University of Delaware in the fall to study marketing. Her grandfather Robert Emerson is a breeder grower for Mountaire.

Macy Renee Chapman plans to attend North Carolina State University as an Agribusiness major. Her father, Daniel Chapman, is a breeder grower for Mountaire.

Nancy Pineda Teoyotl is a senior at the University of North Carolina Pembroke, and studies information technology. Her mother, Julieta Garcia Pineda, is works on our Quality Assurance team in our Lumber Bridge plant.

Cameron Heath Carlson will be attending Florida State University to study finance. His father, Patrick Carlson, works in grain merchandising for Mountaire.

Anesu Mavhiya attends the University of North Carolina at Pembroke as a Political Science in Public Policy Administration major. Her father, Borthwell Mavhiya, works at our Lumber Bridge processing plant.

Jamari Heredia will be attending Elon University in the fall and his major will be chemistry. His mother, Maria Ledwell, works in the accounting department in our Lumber Bridge processing plant.

Madison Canoy will attend Central Carolina Community College with an associate in Applied Science and a degree in Medical Sonography. Her parents, Matt and Kim Canoy, are broiler growers for Mountaire.

Elizabeth Phillips is a senior at Campbell University. Her major is Business Administration. Her grandmother, Patsy Phillips, and father, Shannon Phillips, are broiler growers for Mountaire.

Jailene Lemus Hurtado will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the fall studying arts. Her father, Juan Lemus, works on our maintenance team at our Siler City processing plant.

Adriyana Joyce Burns will be attending Appalachian State University to study nursing. She is the daughter of Arthur Hill, works on our production team in our Siler City processing plant.

Zainab Adamou-Mohamed attends the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a sophomore. She studies Studio Art. Her mother, Ghaisha Yahaya-Mohamed, works for our Human Resources team in Siler City.

Mason Blaine Shell is an entering freshman that will be attending Wilkes Community College. His father, Timothy Shell, is a shift manager at our Siler City processing plant.

2023 Scholarship Recipients on Delmarva

Annabeth Leigh Hill will be entering Chesapeake College as a freshman and going to study agriculture. Her father, Ronald Rogala, is a broiler grower for the Millsboro location.

Colin Hopper will attend Virginia Tech in the fall and his major will be Agribusiness. His father, James C. Hopper, is a broiler grower for Mountaire for the Millsboro location.

Ryan Baker is an entering freshman at Lehigh University. He plans to study mechanical engineering. His father, Mark Baker, is a grain producer for Mountaire for the Millsboro location.

Callie Trexler is a sophomore at Catawba College and is undecided for her major. Her father, Darrin Trexler, is a grain producer for Mountaire.

Ethan Patey is a sophomore that attends Delaware Tech Community College where he is studying Agribusiness Management. His grandfather, Howard Webb, is a grain producer for Mountaire.

Tawney Nelson will attend East Carolina University and study nursing. Her father, Jamie Nelson, is a grain producer for Mountaire.

Caleb Floyd attends James Madison University as a junior. He is studying business management. His father, William Floyd, is a grain merchandising manager for Mountaire on the eastern shore of Virginia.

Alexis Buckley is a sophomore at Wilson College, studying veterinary nursing. Her father Paul Buckley works in IT at Mountaire and her mother, Jennifer, works in accounting in Millsboro.

Zackary Tidabock will attend The University of Tampa with a major in finance. His mother, Angela Schweiger, works in IT at Mountaire in Millsboro.

Delaney Bennett will attend Salisbury University. She plans to study dental hygiene. Her father, Darrell Bennett, works in Sales at Mountaire in Millsboro.

David Choi attends The University of Virginia and is a junior. His major is Computer Science. His father, Hyung Choi, is a broiler grower for Mountaire for the Selbyville location.

Autumn Drew will attend Wor-Wic Community College to study nursing. Her parents are broiler growers for Mountaire for the Selbyville location.

Mindy Blevins is a junior attending Wilmington University studying organizational leadership. Her father, Charles Blevins, is our feed mill superintendent in Frankford.

Andersen Herman is a junior at Salisbury University studying chemistry. His mother, Gertha Herman Francois, works in our tray pack department in Selbyville.

Sofia Lopez will attend The University of Delaware in the fall. Her major will be engineering. Her father, Federico Lopez, is our shipping manager in Selbyville.

Jillian Collins will attend Delaware Valley University in the fall to study animal science. Her father, Scott Collins, leads our Security team in Selbyville.

Camille Bello is a junior at the University of Delaware. Her major is Health Behavior Science. Her mother, Lily Bello, works in purchasing for Mountaire in Selbyville.
