BRIDGEVILLE, Del. — To help ensure a safe and successful harvest season, Mountaire Farms’ Prime Quality Grain division is hosting a free grain safety workshop for farmers and first responders across the Delmarva Peninsula.
Mountaire is hosting two separate training sessions on Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, at the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Company. The training is designed to equip farmers and other agricultural professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to recognize grain bin hazards and respond safely during grain engulfment emergencies.
The event will feature both classroom instruction and hands-on rescue training with the Safety & Technical Rescue Association (SATRA) and is being offered in two separate sessions:
- Afternoon Session: 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Evening Session: 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Participants will receive an overview of grain bin hazards, engulfment risks, and emergency response procedures before taking part in practical grain engulfment rescue training led by experienced safety professionals.
“Grain bin incidents can happen in seconds and often have tragic consequences,” said Mountaire Director of Safety John Ward. “We’ve hosted events for first responders before since they are first on the scene of an accident. But helping farmers understand how to prevent accidents is also critically important, and we’re proud to be able to bring these training resources to our community.”
The classroom session will cover:
- Grain bin hazards and risk awareness
- Causes and prevention of grain engulfment incidents
- Emergency response protocols and best practices
The hands-on grain engulfment session will focus on:
- Safe rescue techniques
- Entrapment response procedures
- Coordination between farmers and first responders during emergencies
Space is limited in the hands-on grain engulfment session, so reserve your spot today.
The training is part of Mountaire’s ongoing commitment to promoting workplace safety and supporting the agricultural communities it serves.
