Our teams have been impacted by breast cancer, just as almost every other family has. Each year, we raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and support with our Wear Pink Day.
One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. With odds like that, nearly all of us know or work with someone who has been diagnosed, or maybe you are that someone. But with odds like that, you are not alone in this fight. We band together every October in pink to show that, and to remind ourselves and each other to know the signs and to check or be tested for breast cancer. For more information on early detection, click here, and remember: early detection saves lives!
“Sixty-four percent of breast cancer cases are diagnosed at a localized stage (there is no sign that the cancer has spread outside of the breast), for which the five-year survival rate is 99 percent.”
At our locations throughout Delmarva, North Carolina, and Arkansas, our employees raised over $2,500 which we then matched, giving a total of more than $5,000 to put toward three local organizations supporting women. In Arkansas, this money will help New Outlook Cancer Center; on the Delmarva Peninsula, this fundraiser benefits Women Supporting Women; and in North Carolina, we will donate to First Health Cancer Care Fund.
And don’t forget to know the signs in men! One in 1,000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but until that number is zero, keep fighting – and keep getting tested!
Thank you to every employee (some of whom are shown here) who helped support this year’s efforts!
