SELBYVILLE, DE. (September 28, 2018) – Mountaire Farms, Inc., a leading chicken processor on Delmarva, has agreed to donate $210,000 toward the cost of a road improvement project in the town of Selbyville.
Railroad Avenue, which links two main arteries through town, has been closed to traffic since March of 2018. The town’s Public Works Department discovered rust issues in the galvanized metal culvert under the roadway in 2015, and made temporary repairs to keep it open as long as possible. The project is estimated to cost $395,250 to complete. The balance of the funding will come from a grant from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC).
“This is a critical road for town residents, and Mountaire is pleased to make this donation to the Town of Selbyville for the repairs,” said Amanda Irwin, Senior Director of Processing Operations for Mountaire Farms. “We have been partners with the Town for a long time and we look forward to continuing this relationship to make things better in Selbyville.”
Earlier this month, Irwin presented the town with a check for the repairs.
“The town is very thankful for Mountaire’s participation in the project which has enabled us to move forward with this without having to find additional funding,” Selbyville Mayor Clifton Murray said. “Very appreciative Mountaire has stepped up to the plate for this long overdue culvert replacement.”
A pre-construction meeting is slated for October to determine a start date for the project. Once the repair work commences, it’s anticipated to take no longer than 60 calendar days to complete.
