Our first project in September of 2019 partnered with Habitat for Humanity, in both Sussex County, DE, and Chatham County, NC. Together, on the same day, we made a huge difference with our first Rock the Block events!
In Sussex County, we targeted Selbyville, DE, where our processing plant is located. A group of more than 80 volunteers worked hard on about 25 projects in town. Those included power washing dozens of homes, removing yard waste and other debris, landscaping, rebuilding a hand railing, cleaning up a church, and gutting concession stands for the first part of makeover at the local ball field.
In Chatham County, our team helped transform a walking trail from an overgrown mess to a usable resource for the Westmont neighborhood in Siler City. More than 40 employee volunteers helped cut back trees, clear bushes, trim shrubs and dig ditches to help drainage in the area.
Both events culminated with a block party where all the volunteers and many of the residents gathered to enjoy a delicious Mountaire Farms chicken barbecue lunch. We are grateful for all of our volunteers who truly made a difference in these communities.
